Hello! My name is Tom and for the past few years I have been travelling around the world to capture fascinating places in beautiful light. My images have been licensed by clients all over the world and my prints decorate walls in many homes and offices. After all these years arriving in a new country or a city for the first time still excites me. I also enjoy designing and developing websites, so I created this blog to share my experiences with fellow travellers and photographers. This is a website about wanderlust and photography, about stunning places around the world and the technology that enables us to capture their beauty. This is a website about cityscapes, landscapes and seascapes captured in beautiful ambient light.
This is the view from the Drachenfels peak, on the left side of the Rhine you see the former German capital Bonn, on the right – the town of Königswinter. In the full resolution on the horizon you can recognize the skyline of Cologne with the famous cathedral. The Drachenfels, meaning Dragon’s Rock in German, is a peak in the Siebengebirge range […]
Sony has just announced two new high-end E-mount products: the long awaited a9 full-frame mirrorless camera and a new super telephoto zoom lens: the FE 100-400mm F4.5–5.6 GM OSS. After the huge success of Sony’s a7 line of cameras, it seems that the a9 is the first camera in a new line. The new line is placed above the a7 range (a7 II, a7R II , a7S II), or at least will cater to a different user group. With a launch price around 4500 US dollars (or €5,300), it is approx. 1000 US dollars more expensive than the current flagships (a7S II, a7R II ) were at launch. […]
This photo was taken from the area near St. Katharine’s Pier in London. It shows three great London landmarks. The oldest of them is of course the famous Tower Bridge, opened in 1894. It doesn’t owe its name to the two towers, even though it is one of very few bridges on the Thames that does feature towers. It is called Tower Bridge because it is close to the Tower of London, which perhaps is even more famous and certainly many centuries older than Tower Bridge itself. […]
Lighthouses are a great subject for photography. This is another image of the Baily Lighthouse in Howth near Dublin, Ireland. The first lighthouse there was built in the 17th century. It was located high on the cliff and the problem was that the light was not always seen in fog. In 1814 a new lighthouse was completed. The top of the new tower was only 41 meters (134 ft) above sea level. […]
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is an encryption protocol used in communication over computer networks. As a matter of fact, the SSL specification has been superseded by TLS (Transport Layer Security). However, the SSL acronym is still widely used to refer to both protocols. You can immediately tell which websites use secure connections. If the connection is secure, in the address bar of your browser you will see “https” instead of “http” and depending on the browser a green padlock icon may appear. […]
