When you stay in Niagara Falls I recommend doing a boat tour. There are two operators, one on the Canadian side and one on the US side. The Canadian boat is named The Hornblower, and this is the one which I took. The experience on the American boat Maid of the Mist should be similar. They both take you past the American Falls and approach the Canadian Falls, a.k.a. Horseshoe Falls. You do get wet, but they will give you a plastic poncho.
