The Most Vertical City in the World

As I mentioned in one of the previous posts, Hong Kong is often called “the most vertical city in the world”. This amazing Chinese city owes its nickname to the extremely high concentration of skyscrapers and high-rise buildings. The tallest skyscraper in this picture is Two International Finance Centre. It was completed in 2003, and with its 415 m (or 1,362 ft), it is currently the second tallest building in Hong Kong. […]

Panorama of Frankfurt am Main at Sunset

For some reason, major German cities seem to avoid skyscrapers. Yes, there some skyscrapers/highrises in Cologne, Munich or Berlin, but there are no real skyscraper clusters as in many North American or East Asian cities of similar size. The tower is located in Minato Mirai 21 district of Yokohama. Minato (港) means “port” in Japanese, so the fact that the ward in Tokyo shares the name with a district in Yokohama, is a coincidence. […]

Lower Manhattan Skyline as Seen from New Jersey at Sunrise

This photo of the Lower Manhattan skyline was taken in 2014 on a chilly April morning, half an hour after this one. I had wanted to return to New York City for a long time, but I waited patiently until the construction of One World Trade Center (previously known also as the Freedom Tower) was completed. […]

Toronto Skyline and Lake Ontario at the Blue Hour - Canada

Thanks to Toronto’s location on Lake Ontario and the high concentration of skyscrapers in its central business district, it is not difficult to find spots with great skyline views. […]
