Sony has just announced two new high-end E-mount products: the long awaited a9 full-frame mirrorless camera and a new super telephoto zoom lens: the FE 100-400mm F4.5–5.6 GM OSS. Sony announced two new lenses and a new flash today. The lenses are: the FE 100mm F2.8 STF GM OSS (a.k.a. SEL100F28GM) and the FE 85mm F1.8 (a.k.a. SEL85F18 ). These lenses will be very interesting to all portrait photographers using a7 series cameras. As all FE lenses, they will of course work also on E-mount cameras with APS-C sized sensors, for example the a6300 or the a6500. […]
I finally bit the bullet and purchased the camera that I had been thinking of for the last few months – the Sony A7R II, a.k.a. ILCE-7RM2. I had hoped the price would come down a bit after early adopters are served, but unfortunately it did not come to this yet. The earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan affected Sony’s sensor production and as a result of that many dealers are currently running out of stock of some camera models. As of now, many dealers don’t have the A7R II in stock. They had been expecting shipments around July 15th, later it was postponed to August and now some sources claim that the cameras will arrive in September.
As of now, Sony uses two lens mounts for their cameras and camcorders: the A-mount, which is a Konica Minolta technology, acquired in 2006, and the E-mount, which was developed by Sony for their mirrorless cameras and camcorders in 2010. The first E-mount cameras had APS-C sized sensors, but in 2013 Sony surprised many people and announced the A7 and A7R, which were the smallest and lightest cameras with interchangeable lenses and full-frame sensors at that time.
